Two Rail Closures Planned for This Weekend

PITTSBURGH – Two closures will affect rail service this weekend, Pittsburgh Regional Transit announced today.

The first closure will temporarily suspend light rail service between First Avenue and Steel Plaza stations from the end of service on Friday, October 23, through the start of service on Sunday, October 25.

During the closure, crews from PRT’s Way Department will replace a switch, while crews from the Power and Signals Department will replace a signal.

Shuttle buses will operate between First Avenue at First Avenue Station and on Ross Street at Steel Plaza Station. A rail shuttle will operate between Steel Plaza and Allegheny stations. All stations will remain accessible, and PRT employees will be available at Steel Plaza to assist riders with transfers.

The second work area will close the Mt. Washington Tunnel between 5 p.m. Sunday, October 25, and start of service on Monday, October 26, while Duquesne Light does electrical work within the tunnel.

During the closure, all inbound and outbound light rail service will detour through Allentown. A rail shuttle will operate between the outbound platform of Station Square and Allegheny Station to maintain service along the corridor. Bus service will also be detoured. Inbound buses will generally use Allentown streets, while outbound service will use the Wabash Tunnel.

Riders should expect delays of up to 20 minutes during both closures.
