Weekend Detours for Veterans Day Parade and EQT Pittsburgh Races
PITTSBURGH – Nearly 50 bus routes will be detoured in and around the downtown Pittsburgh area this weekend to accommodate the annual Veterans Day Parade and the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler and 10K.
On Saturday, November 7, the city’s 107th annual Veterans Day Parade will close several streets downtown. The parade begins at the intersection of 11th Street and Liberty Avenue, then proceeds down Grant Street and the Boulevard of the Allies. Bus detours will begin around 7 a.m. and continue until approximately 1:30 p.m.
Because several bus routes will be unable to reach some areas of downtown, riders will be able to disembark buses and transfer for free to light rail cars at Station Square, First Avenue, and Steel Plaza. There will not be a rail connection between Steel Plaza and Penn Station this year, as the Penn Tunnel, which connects the two stations, is closed for maintenance work.
On Sunday, November 8, 48 routes will be impacted by the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler and 10K, which will start at Station Square and the North Shore, respectively. The course goes through the West End, North Shore, Strip District, and downtown. Bus detours will begin around 6 a.m. Streets are expected to reopen by 1 p.m.
Detour details for both events will be available at www.rideprt.org/detours. Riders are encouraged to check detour information before traveling and allow extra time for their trips.
Additionally, PRT buses and rail will operate regular weekday service on Wednesday, November 11 for Veterans Day. PRT’s administrative offices and Downtown Service Center will be closed for the holiday.
