Joint development is a project that utilizes our assets, such as a busway or light rail stations, to physically or functionally connect to commercial, residential, mixed-use, or other non-transit related development.

We intend to be a sponsor for joint development. In order to consistently and transparently engage in these efforts we have developed Procedures for Competitive Negotiations for Joint Development, which were adopted by our Board in October of 2018.

Current Joint Development Opportunities

Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) and the Borough of Dormont are releasing a joint Request for Letters of Interest to solicit developers who would potentially be interested in developing a high-quality, mixed-use transit-oriented development (TOD) adjacent to PRT’s Dormont Junction Station.

In an attempt to gauge interest in development on this site, PRT and Dormont are jointly issuing a request for Letters of Interest (LOI) from the development community. The Request for LOIs is meant to solicit feedback and interest in the vision for TOD set forth in the Dormont Junction Station Area Plan. This informal process is in anticipation of a formal Request for Proposals process for the site, to be jointly issued by PRT and Dormont if viable proposers are identified through the Request for LOIs process and otherwise consistent with PRT’s Board-adopted Procedures for Competitive Negotiations for Joint Development and relevant Dormont requirements, that is tentatively targeted to occur later in 2023.

See the Request for LOIs linked below which outlines required materials, terms and limitations, and deadlines. Should you choose to submit an LOI, you may be contacted for an informal conversation with PRT and Dormont staff to discuss your submission and feedback on the potential project.

LOIs should be received no later than 5pm, EST on Friday, April 7th. Please submit LOIs and direct any questions to Moira Egler, Program Manager of Place-Based planning at megler@rideprt.org.  Only questions submitted via e-mail to Ms. Egler at least (5) business days prior to the due date for LOI submissions will be responded to.
