Service Adjustments

PRT adjusts schedules three times a year. These changes will go into effect on Sunday, October 19, 2025. Please look closely at the changes below, as service has been adjusted on some routes based on current ridership and to improve reliability.

ROUTING CHANGES

(Update: 10/2/25 - An agreement in principle has been reached to maintain PRT bus service at The Waterfront in Homestead. These routes will continue to serve the stops.)

At the direction of M&J Wiklow, the owner and operator of The Waterfront, public transit buses will no longer be permitted to serve bus stops on the property, so buses will bypass retail storefronts and operate on East Waterfront Drive. Some daily trip times have also changed for the below routes:

• 53-Homestead Park – The timetable for Saturday and Sunday has been revised, and one trip was added each day.
• 53L-Homestead Park Limited
• 57-Hazelwood
• 59-Mon Valley
• 61D-Murray Short – Some weekday trip times have changed to increase scheduling efficiency.
• 64-Lawrence-Waterfront

(Update: 10/2/25 - The 54-North Side-Oakland-South Side will return to regular routing using the Herron Avenue Bridge after the bridge was reopened by the city.)

54-North Side-Oakland-South Side – The current detour through Polish Hill due to the closure of the Herron Avenue Bridge, will become permanent. Some daily trip times have changed.

28X-Airport Flyer – New routing has been established through Pittsburgh International Airport due to the opening of the new passenger terminal. Buses will operate on weekdays every 32 minutes until 10 p.m. and then every 44 minutes from 10 p.m. to end of service; every 33 minutes on Saturdays; and every 36 minutes on Sundays to accommodate the increased travel time to and from the new layover location.

52L Homeville Limited – Some afternoon peak trips will begin from Second Avenue opposite Municipal Courts Drive. Some weekday trip times have been changed to increase scheduling efficiency.

74-Homewood-Squirrel Hill – The route will now use Murray Avenue, Beacon Avenue, and Shady Avenue to Beechwood Boulevard through Squirrel Hill. Weekend routing has been adjusted to match weekday routing. Some daily trip times have changed to improve operations.

75S-Ellsworth Short – A new short variant of the 75-Ellsworth is established to and from the Fifth Avenue ramp during weekday peak hours and will run every 15 minutes to address overcrowding between Oakland and Shadyside during peak hours.

75-Ellsworth – Long variant frequency to and from Old Freeport Road has been decreased from every 25 minutes to every 30 minutes during weekdays. Some weekend trip times have changed to improve on-time performance.

Mt. Washington Tunnel

We anticipate the reopening of the Mt. Washington Tunnel soon. When work is complete, the previously detoured routes through Allentown and the Wabash Tunnel will return to the routes used before the closure.

  • Y47-Curry Flyer – Some daily trips have changed. The Saturday timetable has also been revised, and two trips were added. Two round trips have been added.
  • Y49-Prospect Flyer – Some daily trips have changed.
