Meet Larry, Bus Operator Instructor

When did you start working at PRT?

I started working as an Operator in February, 1993 and became an Instructor in May, 2019.

What do you do in your current role?

I am responsible for training for new bus operators. We teach students basic operations of the bus and how to drive them properly and safety. We teach them customer service and stress that the customer comes first. We build their confidence. We do daily progress reports. We qualify operators on routes and software updates. We train student operators for their skills test and pre-trip test for their CDL (commercial driver's license).

We also train new maintenance personnel on CDL.

What is one thing about your job that people would find most interesting?

We bring people in from diverse backgrounds and mold them into excellent bus operators.

What do you like most about working in the public transportation industry?

Meeting new people and the team work with the management people. I enjoy sharing all of the years of knowledge that I have obtained over the years.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy weight training, travel and I am an avid reader. Spending time with family and my four grandchildren.

What is the one thing that is guaranteed to make you smile?

It makes me smile when I finally see the light click on in a student operators eyes, when they get it.
