From Friday, September 26, through Sunday, September 28, 2025, 41 bus routes will detour for the annual Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race.
To provide service between downtown Pittsburgh and the race start lines in Oakland (5K) and Squirrel Hill (10K), two temporary bus routes will be in operation on Sunday.

Detours
Detours will begin the evening of Friday, September 26, when Liberty Avenue will be closed between Commonwealth Place and Stanwix Street to allow crews to begin work on the finish line area.
More extensive detours will continue into Saturday, September 27, when the Junior Great Race will impact some routes and expand the closure footprint to include Stanwix Street, Commonwealth Place, Fort Duquesne Boulevard and the Sixth Street Bridge.
On Sunday, September 28, most detours will begin at the start of service and impact the downtown, Squirrel Hill, and Oakland neighborhoods. All detours will be in place by 7 a.m. and will last until approximately 1 p.m.
Please look closely as detour start times vary depending on the route.
Riders should allow for extra time when traveling on detoured bus routes.

5K and 10K Temporary Bus Routes (Sunday Only)
Please allow for additional travel time, as all departure times are approximate and subject to change.
Both the 5K and 10K buses will operate via the East Busway between downtown Pittsburgh,Oakland, and Squirrel Hill since many local roads will be closed to traffic.
During this event, hundreds of bus stops in downtown Pittsburgh, Uptown, Squirrel Hill,
and Oakland will be temporarily discontinued and 41 bus routes will be on extensive detours.
Due to the scale of service disruptions during the Great Race, riders are urged to allow
additional travel time to get to their destinations.

Service Between Downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland (5K - Sunday Only)
5K will start service from Downtown at 6 a.m. and will depart approximately every 10 minutes until the beginning of the race at 8 a.m. After the race begins, buses will depart downtown approximately every 15 minutes until regular service resumes around noon.
5K will start service from Oakland at 6:30 a.m. and will depart approximately every 10 minutes until the beginning of the race at 8 a.m. After the race begins, buses will depart Oakland approximately every 15 minutes until regular service resumes around noon.
Return service (and its frequency) is based upon the availability of street access due
to event-related closures.
5K will only serve the following bus stops between 6 a.m. and noon:

From Oakland to Downtown
Board on Bigelow Boulevard at Fifth Avenue
Service Between Downtown Pittsburgh & Squirrel Hill (10K - Sunday Only)
10K will start service from Downtown at 7 a.m. and will depart approximately every 10 minutes until the beginning of the race at 9:30 a.m. After the race begins, buses will depart downtown approximately every 15 minutes until regular service resumes around noon.
10K will start service from Squirrel Hill at 7:30 a.m. and will depart approximately every 10 minutes until the beginning of the race at 9:30 a.m. After the race begins, buses will depart Squirrel Hill every 15 minutes until regular service resumes around noon.
Return service (and its frequency) will be based on the availability of street access
due to event-related closures.
10K will only serve the following bus stops between 7 a.m. and noon:
From Downtown to Squirrel Hill
Board on Stanwix Street at Penn Avenue
(Gateway #2)
From Squirrel Hill to Downtown
Board on Forbes Avenue past Beechwood Boulevard
Riders who are not running in the race but who are traveling between downtown and Oakland or downtown and Squirrel Hill may also use this temporary service.
