The Wabash Tunnel provides a shortcut for motorists from Route 51 to the South Side and Downtown Pittsburgh.  

NOTE: THE WABASH TUNNEL WILL BE CLOSED IN THE INBOUND DIRECTION UNTIL OCTOBER 2025 DUE TO THE MT. WASHINGTON TRANSIT TUNNEL CLOSURE DETOURS.

* Closed so traffic direction can be changed.

Additional Operating Restrictions:

The speed limit in the Wabash Tunnel is 25 mph and 15 mph around curves.
No vehicle taller than 13’1” is permitted in the tunnel.
No tractor-trailers or similar commercial trucks are permitted in the tunnel.
No flammable liquids or explosives are permitted in the tunnel.
